FAQ

Common questions

Everything buyers ask before purchasing the EyeCatcher Pro system.

Can I use my own brand on the box and printed images?

Yes. The system is fully white-label. You can apply your own brand logo to the photobox and to every image output at no additional cost. There is no EyeCatcher branding required on any customer-facing materials.

What computer and software do I need?

The camera hardware is compatible with both Mac and Windows. If you choose to use the EyeCatcher Editing Software for the fastest workflow, that requires a Windows 10 or 11 machine. Alternatively, the RAW and TIFF output files work with any editing software of your choice. 360 days of Professional editing software are included with every hardware purchase.

Can I print in large formats?

Yes. The native resolution of the EyeCatcher Pro supports prints up to 100 × 80 cm at 300 dpi — and larger at lower dpi settings.

Is it suitable for all eye colours and ages?

Yes — all eye colours, including the darkest eyes, are captured effectively thanks to the advanced illumination system, which does not blind the customer. Photographically the system can be used at any age. In practice we recommend a minimum age of around 4, as the process requires the subject to follow simple positioning instructions.

How many customers can I serve per hour?

Throughput depends primarily on your editing workflow. Photography itself takes approximately 30 seconds per customer. Using the EyeCatcher editing software, editing averages around 3 minutes — giving a realistic total session time of 4–5 minutes per customer, or roughly 12–15 customers per hour. The system hardware has a lifetime capacity of around 350,000 photos.

Is any photography experience required?

No photography experience is required. The capture process is guided and repeatable — any staff member can operate the system after the included live onboarding session. Additional training material is available in our web system at no charge.

Do I have to pay royalties or monthly franchise fees?

No. The hardware is a one-time purchase with no ongoing royalties or franchise fees. You own the system outright. The only ongoing cost is the optional EyeCatcher editing software subscription, which starts after your included 360 days of Professional software and can be cancelled at any time.

Do you offer financing or instalment payment options?

Instalment and payment plans may be available depending on your location and order details. Contact us to find out what options apply to you.
Common concerns

The price feels high — what's the actual return?

The system is a one-time capital purchase, not a recurring cost. At 8 customers a day at $60 a session — a modest kiosk in a mid-traffic location — that's roughly $480/day or $140,000+ annually. The hardware typically pays for itself in months. What it costs to not own it: under a franchise at 15% royalties on that revenue, you're paying over $21,000 per year permanently. Three years of franchise fees typically exceeds the EyeCatcher hardware cost. After that, everything you earn is yours.

We already shoot iris photography ourselves.

Two paths depending on your setup. If you're capturing with a macro lens and editing in Photoshop, the EyeCatcher software alone may be worth it — it cuts editing from 20–40 minutes to around 3 minutes per image. At 8 customers a day that's 2+ hours of editing time returned to you daily. If you're operating under a franchise or licensed model, the relevant question is what you're paying in royalties each month. Contact us and we'll walk through whether a switch makes financial sense for your volume.

Can't we build a similar setup ourselves for less?

You can, but the gap is larger than it looks. A macro lens, ring flash, camera body, and PC for editing is roughly $5,000–$8,000 before software and setup time. The bigger cost is ongoing: without a dedicated iris editing workflow, each image takes 15–30 minutes of Photoshop work. At 8 customers a day, that's 2+ hours of skilled editing time daily before you've turned a profit on the session. EyeCatcher has 15 years of refinement in the capture optics, illumination system, and editing workflow built in. The DIY route is possible — it just isn't faster or cheaper once you account for the real costs.
